What are stem cells?

Stem cells are a type of cell that can become a variety of other types of cells.  Under certain conditions, stem cells may become muscle cells, bone cells or cells in other organs in the body.

What can stem cells do?

Stem cells have the potential to repair damaged tissue, such as damaged heart muscle, and can possibly promote “angiogenesis” which is the growth of new blood vessels.
